Roundup: Giving to North Texas Latinx Nonprofits

Hispanic Heritage Month begins in mid-September, and what better way to celebrate than to give to a Latinx-led organization? North Texas Giving Day, an online giving event for nonprofits, happens to fall during Hispanic Heritage Month so we have gathered our favorite Latinx-led nonprofit’s giving pages. Leaders like Olga Martinez of Bachman Lake Together, and Florencia Velasco of the Concilio, represent communities they serve and contribute to building a more equitable Dallas. Our city is now majority Hispanic but we still have room to grow as we support Latinx led nonprofits. Check out the list below to learn more and give.

Junior Players

The mission of Junior Players is to encourage intellectual growth, mental well-being and the development of life skills in youth through mentoring, creative expression, and participation in the fine arts.

ROSAesROJO

ROSAesROJO makes wellness and prevention accessible for the high-risk cancer population of Hispanic women in North Texas, by educating them on the topics of nutrition, physical activity, emotional health, and positive thinking, using Spanish and culturally relevant content.

Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas

Hispanic Women’s Network of Texas (HWNT) promotes the advancement of women in public, corporate and civic life. In 1989, the HWNT Dallas Chapter developed the Latinas in Progress(c) (“LIP”) Education Seminar Series (ESS), designed to engage and encourage young women in high school to explore higher education through mentorship and learning experiences that provide information and access to opportunity, financial resources and exposure to university life.

ImmSchools is an immigrant-led nonprofit organization that partners with educators and community leaders to ensure safe and inclusive schools for undocumented and mixed-status students and their families.

SER Jobs For Progress

AVANCE creates pathways to economic mobility for predominately Latino families through high quality, culturally responsive, two-generation programming that ensures school-readiness for young children and opportunities for parents to build social and economic capital.

Arttitude

Arttitude is a nonprofit organization that creates and supports platforms for LGBTQ+ people to represent their multiple and diverse identities, histories, and communities with the goal of inciting positive change and equality for all through the arts.

COACT

CoAct is a non-profit community design studio that develops creative and inclusive solutions to address the pressing challenges our communities face and equip our partners with the knowledge, capacity, and support systems to aid in creating lasting impact.

Bachman Lake Together

Bachman Lake Together exists to unite the Bachman Lake community to fully prepare children for kindergarten—academically, socially and emotionally—so they can thrive in school and in life. They focus on kindergarten-readiness because of its impact on education, income and health outcomes. They use a strengths-focused lens, viewing Spanish language and Hispanic cultural values as an asset and partnering with families to drive change.

Lonestar Parity Project

Lone Star Parity Project is advancing women+ in Texas politics by amplifying voices and magnifying research. Starting in the largest and most diverse battleground state, they are building a grassroots coalition and creating a blueprint for other states to follow.

Con Mi Madre

Con Mi MADRE is a two-generation non-profit that empowers young Latinas and their mothers through education and support services that increase preparedness, participation, and success in post-secondary education. Con Mi MADRE translates to “with my mother,” which exemplifies the unique element of our programming that intentionally engages mothers in their daughter’s educational journey from 6th grade through college graduation.

Primos Dallas

Los Primos guide and motivate young people to become college, career, and life ready by providing them with the skills to develop self efficacy, a growth mindset, and a commitment to service. Primos is a mentoring organization that pairs young Latino students with Latino professionals in the southern sector of Dallas. Anita Martinez Ballet Folklorico

Anita N. Martinez Ballet Folklorico is committed to creating a dynamic and nurturing educational environment for the community of Dallas. They believe that every child deserves an opportunity and holds potential to achieve greatness through education. Our outreach programs help students who may not have financial means to strengthen their academic performance by motivating them to think, learn, and express themselves through dance. Students receive training from professional maestros and choreographers which gives them the opportunity to perform throughout the metroplex, building self-esteem, confidence, and cultural awareness. ANMBF is committed to building a better future for Dallas youth.

Pasos for Oak Cliff

Our mission is to improve educational inequities, civic awareness, & provide new stylish and high quality shoes for students in need. Since Pasos’ inception, the organization has grown to providing 600+ new shoes for students all over Dallas & Austin, $5,000 worth of scholarships for seniors in title 1 high schools, organizing community events, and civic awareness.

Shared Housing Center

Shared Housing Center offers housing stability with supportive services, focusing on economic independence, vocational advancement and academic achievement. They serve non-traditional families and individuals, including women with children, grandparents raising grandchildren and returning female veterans.

Professional Opportunity Connection for All

POCA is dedicated to creating connections for everyone to grow their skills and providing a network of support along with resources for their professional journeys. They provide networking, professional tools, and knowledge to empower community members in their businesses to impact generational wealth!

Jubilee Park

The mission of Jubilee is to be a catalyst for comprehensive community revitalization and enrichment in Southeast Dallas. Jubilee works to address immediate needs while engaging in long-term, community-driven efforts to combat longstanding inequities in Southeast Dallas. Jubilee improves lives and strengthens community through five key pillars of impact: Safety, Health, Housing, Education & Workforce and Opportunity. Its 10-acre campus serves more than 2,000 individuals per year across multiple generations. With services ranging from prenatal care to senior health clinics and from housing programs to tutoring, Jubilee is proud to serve as a model for community revitalization through a comprehensive continuum of services.

The Concilio

The Concilio partners with Latino and other diverse families as they create a stronger future for themselves and future generations. Latino families are ready for opportunity. They bring rich and diverse contributions to our community that will only grow with greater inclusion and opportunity. But, many face barriers to achieving their dreams for their future and our region’s. Our cultural competency in the Hispanic community, paired with a personal, grassroots approach, allows us to unlock opportunities for and gain the trust of traditionally hard-to-reach, low-income populations.
