Angie Manriquez, who is lovingly referred to by neighbors as just “Angie,” was the inspiration behind this project. A group of volunteers known as “Angie’s Friends” were inspired by her unwavering commitment and continue to uphold her goal today. Together, they prioritize safe adoptions, feeding, and medical care for stray and abandoned dogs and cats that could otherwise go unnoticed. The group has spent years caring for, rescuing, and finding homes for the most needy animals in South and West Dallas.
The rescue of a mother dog and her puppies who were living in a sewer pipe is one tale that perfectly embodies the essence of Angie’s Friends. Volunteers worked to capture the terrified family for almost four weeks, not giving up until all lives were safe. For the team, it represented their dedication to tolerance, kindness, and second chances more than it did a simple rescue.
Angie’s Friends has an effect that extends beyond feeding and veterinary treatment. Every adoption signifies a fresh start for both the adoptive families and the animals themselves. The organization’s conviction that no life is too tiny to matter is demonstrated by each dog and cat that is put in a loving home.
North Texas Giving Day gives Angie’s Friends the vital financial support they need to continue their work. In order to stretch every dollar, the rescue depends on this day. Each year, a committed donor makes a personal contribution, and donations are frequently matched through Communities Foundation of Texas. Through these matches, Angie’s Friends is able to provide foster care, adoption possibilities, and veterinary services that are far more extensive than what can be covered by standard donations.
Contributions this year will go directly toward providing food, medical care, and foster supplies to dogs and cats in South and West Dallas—animals that are frequently disregarded and in serious need of a second chance.
