We Are One City: The Legacy of the Blues in Dallas and the 150th Anniversary of Deep Ellum with Alan Govenar

Join Alan Govenar, award-winning writer, poet, playwright, photographer and filmmaker for engaging conversation: The Legacy of the Blues in Dallas and the 150th Anniversary of Deep Ellum.

The free author talk event, including networking opportunities and complimentary light bites and drinks, will be held at Communities Foundation of Texas on Tuesday, August 27 at 5:30pm.

Govenar will share his insights as the author of more than thirty books and director of Documentary Arts, a nonprofit he founded to advance essential perspectives on historical issues and diverse cultures, including the music history of Dallas in Deep Ellum and beyond.

Communities Foundation of Texas and Deep Vellum Publishing present the Cause-Minded Conversation Series: We Are One City: Elevating the Story of Dallas centered on four major historical events and corresponding books published by Deep Vellum.

Deep Vellum has received an ArtsActivate grant from the City of Dallas Office of Arts & Culture to present this series of events focusing on some Deep Vellum’s LaReunion/Dallas-focused titles, centering discussions around community engagement. “The Story of Dallas” series asks questions about how a city can come together through stories to break down divisions.
