Established in response to high rates of domestic violence in the area, Genesis at South Oak Cliff is hosting an Open House for community members and volunteers to tour the non-residential facility and learn about the critical domestic violence services available to the community. Given domestic violence survivors often under-report abuse, or fear reporting it to law enforcement, educating community members about the free help available to them has the potential to save lives. Domestic violence can be deadly. Every year, Dallas County ranks in the top five in Texas for domestic violence homicides.
Visitors may come and go as they please and speak with any Genesis staff about ways to receive help or ways to get involved volunteering with the organization. Tours of the facility will run on a 15-minute turnaround time.
Services for survivors of abuse include:
• Emergency shelter
• Individual and group counseling
• Legal advocacy to assist with protective orders and legal resources
• Case management to help navigate housing, employment, and other needs
• Childcare during appointments
• Community education on violence prevention
