The Sneakers and Spaghetti Fall Social, hosted by Capable Minds, Hearts, and Hands (CMHH) — The Potter’s House IDD outreach program — brought the community together on Saturday, October 26, for an inspiring afternoon. Broadway star and Dallas native Sky Turner emceed the event, sharing a personal connection as her brother participates in the program. The gathering opened with welcome videos from Mrs. Serita Jakes and Europe’s top sneakerhead, Robert Kjartansson, setting the tone for an uplifting celebration. Mrs. Serita Jakes, the visionary behind CMHH, and Frank Dyer, COO of T.D. Jakes Ministries, attended in support of the event’s mission. Hundreds gathered to honor individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and recognize community members for their outstanding contributions. Honorees included: • Kevin Bennett, Fire House Youth Ministries – Geared Up Award • Gabrielle Harris, Actor – Dream Catcher Award • Dr. Cynthia Jaird, Duncanville ISD – Empowering Others Award • Tiffani Martin, T.D. Jakes Foundation – Game Changer Award • Hollis Owens, To Be Like Me – Knowledge is Power Award • Chelsea Sutherland, Bling Chelsea Bling – Dream Catcher Award • Rev. Barbara Tolbert, Pastor of Missions – Service Champion Award |
A special highlight of the event was the Game Changer Award, presented to Tiffani Martin, a DEIA strategist and disability advocate, and Hope Fairley, Coordinator for CMHH, for their impactful work in the IDD community.
Capable Minds, Hearts, and Hands (CMHH) continues to be a valuable resource for individuals with IDD and their families, with a mission encompassing entertainment, sensory development, education, and community integration, CMHH’s Sneakers and Spaghetti Fall Social was a powerful reminder of the importance of unity, support, and celebration within the community.
