Jamila Thomas: The Impact of History, Education, and Mentoring

Jamila Thomas currently serves as the Vice President of Corporate and Community Engagement at Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star, a role that she says has brought her life’s work full circle. While in Chicago Jamila earned her Masters of Divinity, and launched a nonprofit to serve young women who had been incarcerated. When she returned home to Texas a decade later, Jamila served as an outreach pastor in southern Dallas, and then shifted her focus to creating equity and inclusion policies for Dallas ISD. She also led the charge to create the first African American Studies course for Dallas high schools, and testified before the Texas State Board of Education to see it implemented as an elective for the entire state.
