SUMMARY:Back-to-School Party at Family Compass
DESCRIPTION:Time to celebrate the new school year! Our party for families served will be held indoors\, next door to Family Compass\, in an event space courtesy of East Dallas Christian Church. Volunteer assignments will be given day-of. \n8:30am-10am: Set-up and overview of duties. \n10am-12pm: Families will be picking up backpacks full of supplies for each of their children and enjoying the activity stations. We will have snacks\, crafts\, photos\, and more. Volunteers will work each station and help with the flow of things. \nAfter 12pm: Please help us tidy the space and store excess supplies. DESCRIPTION:Help move cases of donated backpacks upstairs at the Family Compass office and then organize supplies in order of the packing list\, to prepare for future volunteer shifts of stuffing backpacks. These backpacks full of grade level supplies will be distributed to each child Family Compass serves. \nYou must be comfortable with lifting big boxes with a dolly and moving around a lot. SUMMARY:Car Seat Event
DESCRIPTION:ABOUT\nEach of the certified Car Seat Technician staff members at Family Compass\, a 501c3 nonprofit\, will be completing a handful of 30-minute appointments with families to either install a new car seat or check for proper installation on existing car seats. Volunteers will be paired with staff to support each visit by grabbing supplies and supervising children. * Please sign up at the link attached to this listing. * \nWHAT YOU WILL BE DOING\n9-10am: Light set-up and overview of duties. \n10am-1pm: Families will be continuously arriving for their appointments during the event. Car Seat Technicians will each have a lane of cars ready for their appointments. Upon instruction\, volunteers may be instructed to grab a specific car seat or booster seat from the supply area. Additionally\, you will help supervise and entertain the family’s children since they tend to get out of the car during the long appointment. The children need to be kept close to the parent/guardians and away from other cars for safety. \nAfter 1pm: You are welcome to stay to help clean up remaining supplies. \nWHAT TO WEAR\nWear comfortable shoes\, cool clothing\, and sun protection. We will be outside the entire time so please come prepared with water and whatever else you may need to stay comfortable. \n¿HABLA ESPAÑOL?\nIf you speak Spanish\, please email Kyla Lynch at klynch@family-compass.org to let us know. Several of our Car Seat Technicians are bilingual but some are not. We could strategically place you with an English-speaking staff member in case Spanish-speaking families have questions and you could assist with simple translations if other Spanish-speaking staff members are busy.
