For our spring opera this year, Meadows Lyric Theatre is excited to announce our fully staged
production of Stephen Sondheim’s landmark Sweeney Todd, The Demon Barber of Fleet Street. Sweeney Todd premiered on Broadway in 1979 and received eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical.
Operatic in scope, Sweeney Todd is now presented in major opera houses all over the world. The story centers around Benjamin Barker, AKA Sweeney Todd, who returns to London after being exiled by a corrupt judge who lusted after his wife. In Grand Guignol style, Todd, with the help of the lovelorn Mrs. Lovett, devise a grisly plan to take revenge on all of those who wronged him. Come join us for what promises to be an evening of dark humor, delicious meat pies and some of the greatest music Sondheim ever wrote for the stage!
