SUMMARY:Job Training for Adults with Special Needs
DESCRIPTION:Shaping the Future in Cedar Hill: C.H.A.T. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n September 17\, 2025 \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Makenna Bomke \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Story by Makenna Bomke. Photos by Jedarrian Jones \n \n \n \n The focus of North Texas Giving Day will be on groups that are influencing their communities’ futures. The Cedar Hill Action Team (C.H.A.T.)\, under the direction of Executive Director Clara McGinnis\, is one of them. By providing educational\, recreational\, and wellness opportunities that foster growth and a sense of belonging\, C.H.A.T. enhances Cedar Hill’s fabric through programs for both young people and senior individuals. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n This project has a very personal core. Clara remembers the night a young boy knocked on her door after 10:30 p.m. in search of food. She was aware of the difficulties families encounter in meeting basic needs because she was a working single parent. “God showed me that I had to do something for the kids in the community\,” she says. Out of that moment came a calling—and the foundation for C.H.A.T. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n In Cedar Hill\, Texas\, the nonprofit now provides services to both young people and the elderly. C.H.A.T. offers educational support\, mentorship\, recreation\, meals\, and wellness resources through collaborations with the Cedar Hill Independent School District\, an active presence at the Alan E. Sims Recreation Center\, and participation in neighborhood events. In addition to providing for immediate needs\, their initiatives create connections within the community and pave the road for long-term success. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n North Texas Giving Day offers C.H.A.T. exposure\, interaction\, and the opportunity to increase impact. Donations support the nonprofit’s operating expenses\, enabling them to continue meaningfully serving Cedar Hill’s youth and seniors through matching gifts and increased community awareness. Contributions this year will directly support C.H.A.T.’s purpose of community cohesion and personal growth\, whether it be through senior wellness programming\, academic mentoring\, or recreation. \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Visit C.H.A.T.’s website and social media pages to find out more or to get involved in helping to create a more resilient Cedar Hill for future generations. cedarhillactionteam.org facebook.com/chtxchat instagram.com/cedarhillactionteam https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC5a8_ux5-qkB9L5TRYsJAtw125% \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n PrevPreviousAngie’s Friends
